  • Treat  with  respect  like  a  living  thing
  • 50 Stars,  13  Stripes
  • Union - blue  field
 The Flag Code
  • Union  on  top  and  to  flag’s  own  right.
  • Speaker’s  right,  Audience’s  left
  • Flag  can  be  hung  upside  down  as  a  sign  of distress  or  emergency
  • Flown  from  sunrise  to  sunset,  unless  lighted
  • Not  to  touch  the  ground
  • Not  to  be  lowered  or  “dipped”  to  any  person  or  thing
  • Not  to  be  buried  with  casket
  • Not  to  be  used  for  advertising  or  as  part  of  clothing
  • Flags  of  different  countries  should  be  same  size  and  same  height
  • Flag  should  be  destroyed  in  dignified  manner  -  burned if possible
  • Flown  at  highest  point  when  other  flags  are  on  the  same
  • halyard  (flagpole)
  • “Code”  not  “Law” 
  • Flag  is  used  contrary  to  code  for  patriotic  reasons  and  for  protest
